Karen Carter was educated at the St. Stephen Infants/Primary and the Alexandra School.  Afterward, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic where she successfully completed a Secretarial Course. 

To become an Insurance Representative she completed a Course at The University of the West Indies where she gained a Certificate in Life Underwriting and to advance in the Life & Health Insurance field completed the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) Course 1,2,3 with the Life Management Institute. 

In the UK, she then pursued a Certificate in Social Sciences at the Open University and a Certificate in Counselling with Willesden Training Centre.  Additionally, in her quest for understanding the impact of 'Crime' individually and socially and her desire of working with Youth she attended the University of Westminster and gained a BA (Hons) in Sociology & Criminology; and then completed her MA with Merit in Youth Justice, Community Safety & Applied Criminology at the Middlesex University. 

Karen was also a professional member of the Barbados Life Underwriters Association (LUAB) and the Barbados Association of Office Professionals (BAOP) where she held posts as Deputy Chair of the Future Secretaries Association and Chairperson of Education Committee. Her most memorable Award to date was 2nd place in the 1999 Secretary of the Year Competition (SOTY). She also won the Chairperson of the Year Award 1999 - 2000. 

Work Experience: Barbados - Clico International Life Insurance (Agency Secretary - 9 years) and the Mutual Life Assurance Society, presently Sagicor as a Life Underwriter until taking up residence in the UK where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the Barbados High Commission and the Brentfield Medical Centre respectively.

Favourite Sport: - Netball - she is a qualified Coach, Umpire & Trainer Tester.  Other hobbies include reading, poetry, listening to music and event planning.

She may be contacted at the BFUWI office on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
